NCCA

CBRPA was notified by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) that the RPA examiniation has been accredited by the NCCA. This means that the NCCA Standards for Accreditation of Certificaiton Programs has been met. The accreditaiton was granted for five years . The standards provide a framework that help ensure the development of a reliable and valid certifcation program while also requiring consistancy with federal regulations. This accreidtaiton status plus the analysis done by the independent agency for reliability and validity of the RPA examination attest to the high quality of the examination. The CBRPA has established a new organization, called the Academy of Radiology Physician Extenders (ARPE) as a separate, non-profit entity. The purpose of ARPE is to serve as an educational resource as well as a contact for the exchange of information and resources with other professional organizations. Since ARPE is an educational organization, it will not be a membership organization. CBRPA has incorporated the ARPE and is in the process of appointing a Board of Trustees.

TEST REVIEW SESSIONS PLANNED
The CBRPA certification examination is now a computer-based examination and candidates will not have to go to the Weber State University campus; therefore, an examination review session will be scheduled in the spring of each year. Additional reviews can be scheduled depending on need. The review session will consist of discussions on pathology and organ system concepts, test taking hints, and going through sample exam questions presented via a computerbased
format with case studies.

The first review session is scheduled for March 2009 on the Weber State University campus. A fee of $250.00 will be charged to cover the costs of development of the materials and the presentation. A rebate of $50.00 will be given to those that apply for the RPA examination. A portion of the funds generated will be applied toward a scholarship fund for RPA students.

The following message is from the CBRPA Board of Directors. Hopefully, the information will address any misconceptions concerning the intent of the meeting and information circulating about the meeting.

CBRPA has agreed to attend the meeting in October with representatives from ASRT, ARRT, ACR and NSRPA. Cognizant of the fact that the CBRP A representatives will be speaking on behalf of ALL RPAs, the intent is to negotiate in good faith toward common goals while reviewing any bona fide proposal. However, there has not been any exchange of information or documents among the parties, therefore, no conclusions or decisions have been reached concerning any aspect of the proposed merger. The ONLY agreement that has been reached is to have the meeting to discuss the many issues that must be addressed.

President, CBRPA

ACLS Recertification Required

While ACLS certification has been required to sit for the CBRPA examination and recertification has been strongly recommended, continuing certification has not been required. The CBRPA Board of Directors voted, beginning January 1, 2007, to require a current certification status for ACLS or PALS in order to renew and register the CBRPA credential each year. The rationale for making ACLS a requirement stems the need at the advanced level of clinical practice of the RPA. (2006)

Renewal Due Date

The CBRPA Board of Directors voted to make the renewal due date as the last day of the birth month. For example, if your birthday is on May 5, you will have until May 31 to send in your renewal fee and documents. A grace period of 30 days after the birth month will also be given and after that second 30 day grace period, the name will be dropped from the rolls. To reinstate the credential, once an individual has been dropped from the rolls, reexamination is necessary. (2006)

NOCA Membership

The CBRPA is now a member of the National Organization for Certifying Agencies (NOCA) and is listed on their web site along with other member organizations, such as the ARRT, and ARDMS. CBRPA is actively pursuing accreditation of the CBRPA certification examination with National Commission of Certifying Agencies (NCCA). (2006)

Educational Standards

The CBRPA Board of Directors voted during the annual meeting to emphasize the current educational standards and to implement new standards for the future. To meet the eligibility requirements to sit for the CBRPA certification examination, the following educational standards are required.

Year 2007 Baccalaureate (BS) degree required
Year 2007-2013 Courses conducted at a graduate level
Year 2013 Master's Degree required
